BSA Rank advancements require a boy to active is his troop, but what does "active" mean to troop 752. Our senior Scouts meet and created the following policy:

May 2009,

 

  • Attendance: minimum 50% Attendance to meetings and one activity per quarter
  • Leadership: must demonstrate  leadership qualities within the troop
  • Responsibilities: Be up to date on dues, and other commitments to the troop
  • Exceptions: excused exception will be addressed on a case by case instance

Pick a subject that you are interested in and talk to the Scoutmaster about your interests. Read the requirements of the merit badges you think might interest you. The Scoutmaster will give you a signed Blue Card and the name of a merit badge counselor to help you earn your merit badge.  Summer camp is a great time to earn merit badges.

BSA rank requirements can be found in the BSA handbook. Requirements must be completed by each Scout and can be signed off by the Scoutmaster, a Committee Member, Assistant Scout Master, or Senior Patrol Leader.

Adult leaders who want to become a merit badge counselor must complete an adult application, merit badge counselor application (Form 34405), gain approval by the local council's advancement committee, and complete the BSA Youth Protection training within 90 days.  Applications can be given to the Advancement Chairman for District approval.
